KEIGHLEY'S caring public has shown once again that when the chips are down, it rallies round.
The response to the annual toy appeal, held with the town's Salvation Army, was simply phenomenal.
A massive haul of toys, plus food and other goods, was donated.
Countless groups, schools and businesses – as well as individuals – got involved.
As a result of everyone's overwhelming generosity, more than 300 disadvantaged children who faced the prospect of receiving nothing will now have a present to open on Christmas Day morning.
And some bumper food parcels will be heading the way of needy families.
A huge thank-you goes to every single person and organisation involved in the initiative, from venues which acted as collection points to those who kindly donated.
Special tribute should also be paid to the fabulous staff and team of volunteers at Keighley Salvation Army.
They do an incredible job co-ordinating the campaign and storing, wrapping and distributing the mountain of gifts.
But whilst we rightly celebrate the wonderful spirit of giving which prevails at this special time, we should remember that the work of the Salvation Army is year-round and support is constantly required.
Let's not forget those in need when the tinsel is taken down.
