AS WE welcome in the New Year it’s time to get excited as we look forward to some huge movies coming your way!
There’s everything from the rebooted Tomb Raider to live-action Aladdin, The Incredibles 2 to Mamma Mia 2 and much more!
So I am sure 2018 will have you running to the cinema to enjoy this year’s latest films.
We start the year off with the latest Steven Spielberg project. The Post (12a) is a US drama, based on true events from 1971, in which American newspapers race to expose a government cover-up of Vietnam War secrets.
A cover-up that spanned four US presidents pushed the country’s first female newspaper publisher (Meryl Streep) and a hard-driving editor (Tom Hanks) to join an unprecedented battle between journalist and government.
We have been seeing more and more biographical films being released at the cinema and with successes in 2017 such as Victoria and Abdul, Dunkirk, Battle of the Sexes and American Made to name a few, I look forward to seeing some more of these beautifully-constructed dramas in 2018, so keep an eye out for them!
This year is going to be another year full of amazing family films at the Picture House on North Street in Keighley.
The first of these is Disney Pixar’s newest animation Coco (PG) which we showed during its preview week.
In this story Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt), despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music.
Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colourful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events.
Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
I’m sure lots of you will have seen the trailer for this one – the film looks upbeat, colourful and fun so we are expecting this one to be very popular so don’t miss out!
We continue to support the Keighley Film Club in 2018 with their first showing of the year being The Party (15).
This is a British satirical drama in which a civilised dinner party descends into chaos, with Patricia Clarkson, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jones, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Kristin Scott Thomas, Timothy Spall.
The Party will be screened at the Picture House on Sunday, January 21 at 5.35pm. We still have plenty of tickets left for this so if you wish to book in advance please visit out website.
Keighley Film Club’s subsequent movies will be Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool (15) on February 18 and In Between (15) on March 18.
Don’t worry, we will give you more information about these closer to the time, so don’t forget to pencil them in to your diaries!
Non-members are welcome to all Keighley Film Club screenings but becoming a member has its benefits. Membership is available from the cinema anytime we are open.
I look forward to seeing you all over the next few months and wish you all a happy New Year!
