AN ACCLAIMED play about the Brontë family is being revived by the Pendle Borderline Theatre Company.
With the drama Brontë, writer Polly Teale set out to evoke both the real and the imagined world of the Brontë sisters.
The fictional characters come to haunt the creators as Teale explores the lives of Charlotte, Emily and Anne, their addict brother Branwell and their clergyman father Patrick.
The play is set in 1845 as Branwell, plagued by alcohol and drug abuse, returns to his family home in disgrace.
As their brother descends into insanity, bringing chaos to the household, the sisters write their famous novels like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
The story of the Brontë sisters’ commented relationship with brother Branwell was also explored by TV dramatist Sally Wainwright in the acclaimed BBC drama To Walk invisible at Christmas 2016.
Brontë will be staged at Colne Municipal Hall from April 25 to 28.
