WITH THE end of the financial year here, I’ve been looking back over the last year to see what were Keighley’s top films.
Here are our top 10 films by admissions: 1 Paddington, 2 Despicable Me 3, 3 Dunkirk, 4 Star Wars: The Last Jedi, 5 The Boss Baby, 6 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, 7 Guardians of the Galaxy 2, 8 The Greatest Showman, 9 IT and 10 Early Man.
What I find most interesting is the variety of films in this list, which shows Keighley definitely has a love for the cinema!
So here are a few more flicks coming your way – could these make the top 10 list next year?
Opening on April 13 is Rampage (12a) , which sees primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) share an unshakable bond with George, an extraordinarily intelligent silverback gorilla that’s been in his care since birth.
When a rogue genetic experiment goes wrong, it causes George, a wolf and a reptile to grow to monstrous size.
As the mutated beasts embark on a path of destruction, Okoye teams up with a discredited genetic engineer and the military to secure an antidote and prevent a global catastrophe.
Truth or Dare (15) is also released on April 13 and is the next horror to hit the big screen.
A harmless game of “Truth or Dare” among friends turns deadly when someone – or something – begins to punish those who tell a lie or refuse the dare.
Fancy making your Friday the 13th even scarier? Then this may be one for you.
That released on April 20 is Funny Cow (15), which charts the rise to stardom of a stand-up comedienne in an all-male world during the 1970s and 1980s, set set against the backdrop of working men’s clubs and the North England stand-up comedy circuit.
From a troubled childhood to turbulent adult relationships, she uses her life experiences to bring a unique style of comedy to the stage.
Funny Cow delivers tragedy and comedy in equal measure and was shot in January and February 2017 across Leeds, Bradford, Saltaire and Harrogate, so keep an eye out as you may spot some familiar places!
The Leisure Seeker (15), which recently earned Helen Mirren a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress, is also due for release on April 20.
Travelling in their family Leisure Seeker vintage recreational vehicle, John and Ella Spencer take one last road trip from Boston to the Hemingway House in the Florida Keys before his Alzheimer’s and her cancer can catch up with them.
Finally, our next Keighley Film Club screening will be Breathe (12a) which screens on Sunday, April 15 at 535pm.
Breathe is a British drama in which a woman cares for her husband when polio leaves him paralysed and reliant upon a respirator.
