NOW THAT the summer holidays are over, we look towards the end of the year.
I know it’s a little early, but this next film will certainly get you in the mood for some scares in preparation for this year’s Halloween. The Nun (15), which has already started at the Picture House, is a spin-off of 2016’s ‘The Conjuring 2’ and the fifth instalment in The Conjuring Universe franchise.
Set in 1952 Romania, a Catholic priest, Father Burke, and a novice, Sister Irene, are sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious suicide of a nun at the Cârța Monastery. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret, risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls.
They confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorised audiences in The Conjuring 2, and consequently the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
The greatly-anticipated ‘The Predator’ (15) was due to be released on September 7. From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species.
When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biologist can prevent the end of the human race. It’s been eight years since we last saw the Predator on the big screen so I’m sure this will have you on the edge of your seats.
Our next broadcast is La Boheme On Sydney Harbour. This is on Thursday, September 13, at 8pm. From the World’s Most Spectacular Opera series, experience the love, laughter and loss of La Boheme at the magnificent Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.
Puccini’s beloved classic, it is the original Bohemian love story that has long captivated audiences around the world. Puccini’s music swells with love, soars in ecstasy, crackles with jealousy and cries with heartache. With lavish sets and costumes transforming the harbour-top stage into a romantic Paris winter, Opera Australia’s glittering production will be an unforgettable delight.
If opera is not your thing, but rock ‘n’ roll sounds more like it, then look no further, we will be showing for one night only the Elvis: ‘68 Comeback Special (12a). This will be on September 16 at 5.30pm in case any of you need an excuse to brush off the blue suede shoes.
Our next Keighley Film Club screening is Funny Cow (15). This will be screened on Sunday September 16, and will start at 5.35pm. A comedian uses her own troubled past as material in her stand-up comedy routine, as she tries to break into the comedy circuit by playing Northern England’s working men’s clubs.
Remember, all Film Club screenings are open to the public but are only shown the once so don’t miss out. Bookings can be made on our website.
