A CAR caught fire on the Aire Valley trunk road between Keighley and Silsden this evening.

The Vauxhall Astra burst into flames on the westbound carriageway, close to the Steeton and Silsden roundabout.

No one was injured.

A crew from Keighley Fire Station was called out at about 7pm to deal with the incident.

A hose reel jet was used to bring the blaze under control.

The vehicle was extensively damaged.

Police also attended and the carriageway was closed for safety reasons due to the smoke, causing long traffic tailbacks.

The road has now reopened.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
