PETER Clarke will be the speaker at a meeting of Keighley & District Local History Society.

Mr Clarke – a member of Haworth, Cross Roads & Stanbury Parish Council – will talk about the history and development of Bradford University.

McKinlay’s People-History & Academic Traditions of the University of Bradford, will trace the institution from its days as a small technical college to becoming a prestigious centre with Harold Wilson as chancellor.

The meeting is upstairs at Keighley Library on Wednesday, July 10.

Doors open at 7pm and the talk will start at 7.30pm.

Admission is £3 for non-members and £1 for members. Tea and coffee will be served.

A lift is available for anyone with access concerns.

During the past year, history society talks have covered topics ranging from Richard III of York to the Bradford sweet poisonings of 1858. Mr Clarke also visited last August, to speak about heraldic symbols.

Talks usually last about an hour.
