AS THIS is my last article of the year I have quite a lot to squeeze in which is good news for all you cinema fans.
It means we have some fantastic films and Cinema Events, meaning there’s definitely something for everyone over the festive few weeks!
Firstly, although I’m sure a lot of you already have this in the diary, on December 19 we have the first screening of the highly-anticipated ninth episode in the Star Wars saga, The Rise of Skywalker (12a).
A year after the events of The Last Jedi, the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again, while reckoning with the past and their own inner turmoil.
Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, bringing the Skywalker saga to a definitive end.
I’m sure this will truly be a spectacular end to this part of the star Wars story.
If sci-fi and dashing across the universe just isn’t your thing, then fear not!
From Academy Award winner Tom Hooper, director of Les Misérables and The King’s Speech, and based on the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, comes a new film.
Cats pounces its way in to cinemas from December 20. With a truly star cast of some of the top actors, musicians and dancers, you’re really in for a treat over this festive period.
The first two films released after Christmas will be Little Women (U), an American coming-of-age period drama film directed by Greta Gerwig.
This is the eighth film adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott following the lives of four sisters, Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg, as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War.
Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times., The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet and Florence Pugh.
The second film is Spies in Disguise (PG), a brilliant animation where super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites.
Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions.
But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.
Lastly, as we do most years, we have the perfect way to delay those January blues with the annual Andre Rieu New Year concert!
Andre Rieu: 70 Years Young will be broadcast to cinemas on Saturday January 4 at 8.15pm and Sunday January 5 at 2.30pm.
This unique anniversary event will take you on an unbelievable journey around the world to André Rieu’s most amazing concert locations.
These will include such places as Schönbrunn Vienna, Radio City Music Hall New York, Brazil, Mexico, the Coronation Concert in Amsterdam, and Australia.
For those I don’t get to see at the cinema, I would like to wish you all a very happy festive period and a smashing new year!
