A CHARITY has donated more than £4,500 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) to Airedale Hospital.

Humanity First UK, in conjunction with International Health Partners, has delivered a consignment of surgical scrubs to the Steeton hospital.

Dr Aziz Hafiz, a GP in the district and chairman of Humanity First UK, said the donation formed part of a wider effort by the organisation to provide support during the coronavirus crisis.

He added: “Our volunteers, both locally as well as across the country and the world, are currently out there not only supporting the NHS but also assisting the shielded, the vulnerable and those frightened and needing a friendly voice to speak to.

“At this time of emergency, all parts of British society – from the state to the public and the charity sector – have come together to play a role in the national effort.

“We also have a confidential helpline which runs from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, which is taking calls from people needing someone to talk to at this difficult time. Our trained professionals are responding to calls from a wide section of society requiring emotional support.”

Karl Mainprize, executive medical director at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said the hospital was “touched and heartened” by the donation.

He added: “It reminds us that we are surrounded by a truly supportive, charitable community.

“I would like to thank Humanity First UK and International Health Partners for their kindness.

“The surgical scrubs will shortly be in use by our frontline staff who I know will be very grateful.”
