THESE photos – supplied by Kevin Seaton, of Riddlesden – illustrate the development of the Townfield Gate area of Keighley.
The pictures show the addition of the post office and town hall buildings at the top of the bus station in the early part of the 20th century.
On all the photos, the United Methodist Free Church – also known as Cock Chapel – can be clearly seen in the background.
The church opened in 1868 and held its last service in 1937.
Demolition of the building took place in 1952.
The first photo dates from 1870. Note the house on the right – this bears no resemblance to the area today.
The second photograph was taken in 1904.
It shows the newly-built town hall and post office buildings. The house is still visible on the right.
And the third photo dates from 1940.
Additional offices can be seen built to the side of the town hall and post office premises, and the street scene is busier.
