FORMER fashion editor and controversial newspaper columnist Liz Jones has announced that she will be taking to the road with her first one-woman show.
Liz Jones: 8 1/2 Stone and Still Full of Issues will see Liz, accompanied by her not inconsiderable collection of Jimmy Choo’s, enlighten audiences with tales of the horrors of the glossy world of high fashion, models, photographers, movie stars, plastic surgeons and the diet industry.
She plans to bring her first-ever live tour to King’s Hall in Ilkley on July 13 next year.
Not known for mincing her words, the 61-year-old writer will regale audiences with tales of what it’s like travelling the world in search of the perfect pedicure, corralling Hollywood stars to grace the magazine’s cover, which Oscar winner needed air brushing to make her put on weight and which supermodel has cellulite.
All this before being sacked - although she did manage to smuggle 22 designer handbags out of the building.
She will also share what it is like to go under the surgeon’s knife for a boob job and a face lift and the “ignominy” of having done all that - as well as being on a diet since the age of 11 - and still having your husband cheat on you with someone younger and slimmer.
Whether you love her or hate her, Liz promises an evening where you will “laugh and cry”.
And Liz has certainly been a divisive character throughout her career.
Even before her searingly honest - and often unflattering (to herself and others) - columns, she claimed she was hated by everyone in the fashion industry.
She shared details of her marriage breakdown, her move to Exmoor and her new love interest in her serious of columns in The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine.
Her neighbours in Exmoor were famously angered by her comments in her book, The Exmoor Files.
And in 2012 she was called “bitter, nasty and unhinged” by TV presenter Phillip Schofield after Liz slated his co-star Holly Willoughby for posting a photo of herself without make-up - calling it a “betrayal to women”.
However, she has had a successful career as a journalist and was named Columnist Of The Year 2012 by the British Society of Magazine Editors and was shortlisted five times in the last six years as Columnist of the Year at the British Press Awards.
Liz Jones: 8 1/2 Stone and Still Full of Issues, rescheduled from October this year due to Covid-19, is billed as suitable for those aged 14 and over.
The show, rescheduled from October this year, will last two hours.
This will be her stage debut after writing her first novel.
A spokesman said: “Not known for mincing her words, she will enlighten you about the horrors of the world of high fashion; regale tales of what it’s like travelling the world in search of the perfect pedicure; corralling Hollywood stars to grace the magazine’s cover; which Oscar winner needed air brushing to make her put on weight and which stick insect supermodel has cellulite.
"Ever wondered what it was like to go under the surgeon’s knife for a boob job and a face lift?
"And the ignominy of having done all that, having been on a diet since the age of 11 and discovering your frankly somewhat obese husband cheated on you for someone younger, dimmer and slimmer!
“Love her or hate her – you will laugh and cry!”
