AN 89-year-old charity stalwart has completed his latest fundraising walk – despite suffering from blood cancer.
Former paratrooper Jeffrey Long walked ten miles from Silsden to Bradley, along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath.
He finished at the memorial commemorating a Polish air crew which died when its plane crashed at the site during the Second World War.
Jeffrey, from Bingley, placed a wooden cross with poppy at the spot.
The walk was the third in a series of ten that he’s taking on to raise money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the RNLI.
“It went well – the weather was a bit wild at the start but it calmed down,” said Jeffrey, who also has just had surgery for cancer on his hand.
“I found it an extremely poignant moment at the memorial to the air crew. Very moving.”
In 2018, Jeffrey walked 100 miles to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force.
