TV DOCTOR Amir Khan has been appointed Manorlands’ first ambassador.

He said he was “honoured and proud” to take-up the role with the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

“Manorlands is a very special place,” he said.

“The hospice provides vital care and support to people in our community and I look forward to helping raise awareness of the invaluable work it does.”

Bradford-born Dr Khan, who has been a GP in West Yorkshire for over a decade, first appeared on hit Channel 5 series GPs: Behind Closed Doors and is now well-known for regular appearances on ITV’s Lorraine and Good Morning Britain.

Last year he published his memoirs – The Doctor Will See You Now: The Highs and Lows of My Life as an NHS GP – which became a Sunday Times bestseller.

His appointment is welcomed by Manorlands’ hospice director, Lizzie Procter.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Dr Amir Khan has become our very first ambassador,” she said.

“At a time when we need the support of the public more than ever, having him on board will help us to spread the word about the services we provide and to continue to be there when it matters.”

Manorlands provides care, advice and support for people living in the Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven areas who are dealing with life-limiting conditions – as well as supporting their families. It also offers community services for people who prefer to receive palliative care at home.

Like other charities, Sue Ryder has been hit hard financially by the impact of the pandemic, with its charity shops closed and fundraising events cancelled.
