A COMMUNITY has rallied round in support of a charity fundraiser.

More than 30 prizes have been donated for an Easter raffle at the Co-op petrol station, in Cross Hills.

The event is being staged to raise money for MIND, the Co-op’s charity partner.

Organiser Liam Bonser, who works at the petrol station, said: “MIND – and other mental health charities – are so vital for the public, due to the isolation and loneliness that many people have felt during the past year.

“When I sent out a post on Facebook about the raffle and appealing for prizes I did not expect many to be donated, as small businesses have been hit so hard throughout the pandemic. But the response was absolutely overwhelming.

“We have over 30 prizes donated so far and I still have many more people messaging me and kindly donating. The generosity shown by the residents and businesses of the area has been absolutely staggering and I cannot thank them enough. Over £200 has been raised so far.”

The raffle is due to be drawn on April 3 and tickets – at £1 for a strip of five – will be sold until that morning.
