A series of courses is planned for the New Year by the Keighley branch of the Workers' Educational Association.

"Family History - the Parish Chest" will look at additional material that can be gleaned for your family tree when using parish registers. Students will sample some of the documents and learn basic palaeography skills.

The 10-session course will run every Thursday - starting next week - from 10am-noon at Keighley Volunteer Centre, North Street.

"The Golden Age of Viennese Music" will provide a chronological survey of the music of Johann Strauss, Franz Lehar and many more performed by artistes including Karajan, Schwarzkopf, Rothenberger, Gedda and Kunz.

The seven-week course runs on Thursdays (2-4pm) from January 17 at the Temple Row Centre in Keighley. Fees are £35, or £32 concessions, and registration is £2.

"Practical Craft Activities" will offer an introduction to a variety of creative activities that may include fabric and china painting and jewellery making, and there will be opportunities to create other artistic designs.

And "Further Creative Feltwork" will explore the versatile medium of felt making, from smaller projects such as bags and brooches to more detailed wall hangings.
