The King's Arms pub, in Silsden, has won a coveted award.

The Campaign for Real Ale Keighley and Craven branch has crowned the King's Arms joint winner of its "Pub of the Season" award and commended its improvement over the past four years.

CAMRA branch secretary Fred Baker said that since new owners Francis Huggins and Lisa Keeley had taken over the pub, they had made it a vibrant centre for local activities.

"As this is their first pub it is no mean feat. Regular evening events include a folk session on Tuesdays, a quiz on Wednesdays and live music on Thursdays," he said.

The pub was also given the award because, besides offering John Smith's Cask regularly, it also has two real ale pumps, which are constantly changed. Lisa said that this had been the secret to the pub's popularity.

She said: "Because we constantly change what we offer, the customers know that if what we have is not to their taste, we will have something different on the next time."

Ms Keeley, who used to work in accounts, and Mr Huggins, who used to work in pharmaceuticals, abandoned their careers four years ago to follow Mr Huggins's dream of owning a pub.

The couple say they are very proud to be granted the award and want to thank all their customers and CAMRA for their continued support.
