A teenager told magistrates he had made a stupid mistake when he took his mother's car.

Ashley Parkinson, 18, of Walton Street, Sutton, told the Skipton bench last Friday that he had taken the car to pick up his girlfriend on December 3.

Prosecutor Martin Butter-worth said Parkinson did not have a licence, insurance or permission to drive the car.

The defendant admitted all the offences.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge for taking the car without consent and given six penalty points for driving without a licence. As he already had six points on his licence for driving without due care and attention, he received a six-month disqualification.

He was also fined £100 for driving without insurance and ordered to pay £42 costs and a £15 victims surcharge.
