Vandals ruined Christmas for a group of disabled children.

The yobs destroyed much-used amenities at a Keighley centre which provides respite care to families.

Youngsters staying at the Clockhouse Project could not go on trips during the holidays.

And their garden haven was destroyed in the latest arson attack, on Christmas Day.

The attacks started just days after Bradford & Bingley bank staff spent a week improving the garden.

Clockhouse, which is off Oakworth Road, is run by Bradford Council and provides a home-from-home for children with physical and learning disabilities.

Assistant manager Paula Denny said a spate of attacks in recent weeks had cost thousands of pounds of damage.

In addition to the building the minibus had to be taken away for repair due to smashed windows and an immobilised engine. Paula said: "We would have been using it for day trips and getting out on these wet days.

"Our kids don't have much to do over Christmas - some can't speak or walk."

Paula said that for several years teenagers had regularly come into the secluded Clockhouse grounds.

She said they hung around in the summerhouse and smoked cigarettes and drank cider.

Paula said: "We live with that rather than locking it up and getting it damaged.

"In the past damage has been on and off. The last trouble was five or six years ago."

Bradford & Bingley bank workers spent a week in November planting trees, embedding plants and clearing the grounds at Clockhouse.

Most of the damaged amenities, including the gardens, summer house and minibus, were originally paid for by fundraising.

Clockhouse staff and the Friends of the Clockhouse group will now have to raise money for the repairs.

Anyone who can help can phone Clockhouse on 01535 618220.

The Bradford & Bingley yesterday pledged to try to help Clockhouse again. Operations director Havana Abid said: "This damage is extremely disappointing. We'll look in the New Year to help put the project back on track."

Keighley police said they had received reports of damage to the roof, fence, plants and summer house over the Christmas period. A police spokesman said inquiries were still ongoing.

He added: "Local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers are paying the area attention.

"Anyone with any information about this or any anti-social behaviour in their local area is asked to contact 0845 6060606."
