NORTH Yorkshire has been crowned the best county in the UK for adventure.
The county, which includes the Yorkshire Dales National Park, was placed first, ahead of the Scottish Highlands and Cumbria, in a list compiled by outdoors shop Milletts of the best destinations for an adventure holiday in 2021.
The Adventure Index looks at the number of outdoor activities including walking routes, mountain bike trails and climbing routes, as well as the natural features such as lakes and mountains, to create an overall number of outdoor activities for each county.
North Yorkshire is listed as having 2,909 outdoor activities, including 1,037 mountain bike trails, 884 running or walking trails, and 189 climbing routes.
The Scottish Highland was a close second with 2,627 adventure activities, while Cumbria, home of the Lake District, has 2,126
