The following letters have been received in support of Haworth Post Office, in Main Street – which is threatened with closure and the relocation of services to within the new village Co-op store:

HAWORTH, home of the Bronte sisters and a conservation area, is about to lose its post office located on its famous main street to a newly-built Co-op convenience store.

For two centuries there has been a well-used post office situated at the top of the cobbles.

The notice on the post office door reads you may have your say within or online.

Hopefully the wishes of the many who want to preserve this historical institution will be honoured by Post Office Ltd (a separate business entity from Royal Mail), unlike the many whose voices of protest were railroaded-over concerning the building of the new Co-op.

The Co-op, built only yards from another successful convenience store, was constructed despite High Court Judge Belcher’s ruling against it in 2019 because of concerns over its impact on the conservation area.

Please, if you wish to save Haworth Post Office, visit it in person and sign the petition or lodge your complaint by one or all of the following before it is too late.

PERSONALLY I would like to see the post office in Haworth remain at the top of Main Street. It is well used by local residents and handy for tourists.

Like red telephone and post boxes, its location is iconic and an asset to the heritage of the village.

Moving it to the new ‘shipping container school of design’ Co-op is not necessary and as with most multi-function facilities will make it impersonal.

I was surprised and disappointed to see a post office sign already installed at the Co-op and also reported in the Keighley News. Has this decision already been agreed prior to the public consultation?
