A TOWN councillor has tackled overgrown areas of a village.

Councillor Luke Maunsell, who represents Oakworth ward on Keighley Town Council and is the current deputy mayor, acted after receiving a number of complaints from residents.

He cut back foliage which was obstructing pathways and pavements in various parts of Oakworth including Colne Road, Keighley Road – close to Moorlands Avenue – and Upper Hird Street.

Now he is urging people to help by keeping an eye on their trees and hedges to prevent any problems.

“I normally report these issues to Bradford Council but after realising how overgrown these paths were I decided to take immediate action,” said Cllr Maunsell. “The foliage was so bad, people were having to walk into the road. There were also a number of disabled and elderly residents who were extremely anxious and I couldn’t just leave it.

“Keeping bushes cut back is very important – especially in the summer – and I would urge everyone to keep an eye on their hedges, trees and plants to make sure they don’t impede our paths, roads and rights of way.”
