NEW classes designed to help prevent falls amongst older people are being launched next month.

The Staying Steady sessions will take place in Silsden, Haworth and central Keighley.

The first of the 16-week classes is at Silsden Methodist Church on Monday, September 6. There will be an intermediate session at 1pm and a beginners class at 2pm.

Positive Strength Training CIC is running the venture after successfully applying for a Keighley Community Health grant.

A spokesperson said: “Staying Steady is an evidence-based exercise and education class aimed at older people at risk of falling, particularly those who have been less active during the periods of lockdown.”

The NHS says falls are a common, but often overlooked, cause of injury. Around one in three adults over 65 have at least one fall a year.
