A woman has received a certificate more than a year after taking a course at Park Lane College Keighley.

Vivien Driver took a ten-week Start IT course in September 2006 to improve her computer skills but it was only last Friday she received her accreditation - despite being promised it on several occasions.

Originally told she would receive the certificate in January 2007, Mrs Driver waited until February to call the college when no certificate arrived.

Then told to await the paper through the door in March, by April she was told that the certificate was still not ready and had to be verified.

Dejected after calling again in August and September, Mrs Diver decided to write directly to the principal of Park Lane College.

Mrs Driver said: "I am still really annoyed that the college cannot even keep its promises about handing out certificates. It has finally arrived after more than a year but with no apology."

However, Park Lane College said that initial inquiries had found no record of Mrs Driver's complaint and no member of staff could recall the request. The college said that the certificates for Mrs Driver's course had only just been verified but maintain that: "It is standard practice in the UK for a small college with less part-time courses to put forward courses for moderation only when there is enough courses built up to submit them together.

"This could be approximately every six months or so, with longer delays when verification boards are involved, because of the paperwork involved."
