More tributes have been paid this week to a potholer from Riddlesden who drowned on a caving expedition.

Caroline Fletcher, 28, and a colleague died after getting into difficulties while exploring a cave system in the Yorkshire Dales.

Her body and that of 33-year-old Stuart Goodwill, of Darlington, were found by the Cave Rescue Organisation in Lower Long Churn, Selside, in the early hours of December 28.

It is believed they had been trapped by rising water.

The pair were both engineers - Mr Goodwill worked for Skipton-based JN Bentleys while Miss Fletcher was employed by its subsidiary, Mott MacDonald Bentley.

Work colleagues have held collections and the money will go to the cave rescue team.

In a statement, the company said: "JN Bentley and Mott MacDonald would like to offer deepest condolences to the family and friends of our colleagues, Stuart Goodwill and Caroline Fletcher.

"Both were talented and enthusiastic engineers and key members of our joint venture team, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB).

"Most recently they both worked at our flagship project to reconstruct Esholt Wastewater Treatment Works, in Bradford, Stuart as a mechanical/electrical engineer and Caroline as a process engineer.

"We have started collections at our various offices and will make a donation to the cave rescue team, which is in accordance with the wishes of both families. They will be sadly missed."

Richard Walker, a friend of Miss Fletcher, has created an Internet memorial site in her honour.

He described her as "the happiest, most outgoing, friendly person you could wish to meet".

He said: "Full of life, she enjoyed rambling in the hills, climbing, playing the guitar, listening to music, going to see live bands, running, swimming, cooking, gardening and socialising.

"She meant so much to everyone who knew her because she was dedicated to her family and friends.

"I was fortunate enough to be in a band with Caroline. We would get together once a week to practice and we would play various gigs in the local pubs and enter into battle of the bands competitions in York, in which we did quite well.

"Caroline loved her music and wrote some fantastic songs with real meaning.

"She was dedicated to her job and progressing in her career as much as she could, gaining lots of qualifications along the way. In her job she became special friends with lots of great people."

Miss Fletcher, who graduated in biology from Hull University, leaves her parents, Janet and Paul, and her brother, John.
