A successful project to steer Keighley youngsters away from crime will continue if more funding is found.

Activities were organised last autumn in the Dalton Lane, Lawkholme Lane and Stockbridge areas.

The "cross-neighbourhood youth programme" focused on cutting anti-social behaviour.

Keighley Healthy Living Network co-ordinated many sessions for young people aged eight to 19.

These included swimming, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, a street party and forging links with businesses.

Three separate youth groups met regularly to bring together children and teenagers from the different areas.

The project involved other agencies, including police, the youth service, Park Lane College Keighley and Small World arts group.

One group brought together young people regarded as the "hard-core ringleaders" of the Lawkholme area.

The group continues to meet informally once a fortnight to plan future activities and some are interested in doing community work.

The cross-neighbourhood youth project last year received £19,300 from Keighley Area Committee's community regeneration fund.
