A REVAMPED play area has been officially opened.

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Shabir Hussain performed the honours, at The Delph, Thwaites Brow.

The improved facilities – which include new play equipment and a picnic area – were formally launched during a fun day at the site, at the top of ‘the Twines’, Thwaites Brow Road.

Activities included arts and crafts led by Art Star, games provided by Bradford Council’s youth service and free food from the Healthy Growth Initiative.

The event was paid for by Keighley East district councillors Caroline Firth, Malcolm Slater and Doreen Lee through their ward fund – which is being used to support the community in its recovery from the pandemic.

“We were so pleased that around 50 people – mainly children and their families – joined us on the day and told us how much they love the park makeover,” said Cllr Firth.

“It was particularly lovely to watch one elderly lady make dragonfly crafts and colour-in a bookmark alongside young children. She said she came along because she wanted to meet people – and that’s exactly why we put this event on, to get people together again.”

Cllr Hussain said he was honoured to attend the event.

“We were blessed with wonderful weather and over the two hours lots of people joined us for a lovely time,” he added.

The work on the play area was financed through the Town Fund Accelerator.

Cllr Slater said: “Thanks have to go to the Bradford Council parks team for co-ordinating the funding bid, and for the design and construction on what is a council play area. Thanks also to volunteers in the community who have worked hard on keeping the park and the Twines tidy – and who have worked with councillors to ensure our officers are aware of any issues in the area.”
