Services are being held at churches across Keighley to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

This year's event is on the theme "Pray without Ceasing".

The Week of Prayer tradition, which was started by American minister Paul Wattson, is celebrating its centenary.

A series of seven services, beginning on Friday, is being staged in Keighley and the Worth Valley. Each service will last about half an hour and light refreshments will be served afterwards.

All the services start at 7pm unless stated otherwise. They are: Friday, Exley Head Methodist Church; Saturday, St Mark's Church, Utley (10am); Monday, St Barnabas Church, Long Lee; Tuesday, All Saints' Church, Highfield; Wednesday, St Mary's Church, Oxenhope; Thursday, Keighley Salvation Army, and next Friday, Keighley Shared Church.

There will be no Central Keighley Churches Together united service on Sunday.

Tying in with HOPE 2008, a national initiative in which Christians are working together in their communities, an Alpha course is starting at St Mark's Church in Utley next Wednesday. It will run for 12 weeks.

And this Sunday there is a clean-up at Penistone Hill car park at Haworth (noon) with lunch afterwards at Haworth West Lane Baptist Church. There is then a Churches Together Haworth and Cross Roads united service at St Michael's and All Angels Church, Haworth.
