A Haworth pub landlord is in line for a coveted award.

Nick Hindle - of the Fleece Inn, Main Street - has been shortlisted for the Newcomer of the Year title in the prestigious Publican Awards.

He is among just six finalists from an original entry of more than 80.

Nick, who has been the tenant at the Timothy Taylor-owned Fleece for just over a year, said: "I was quite surprised when I received the call to say I'd been shortlisted as I'd been told the competition from around the country was fierce.

"I only hope now I've done enough to go on and win."

To qualify, he had to have less than two years' experience in the trade and demonstrate that hard work and business acumen had created an outstanding pub. Timothy Taylor tied estate manager Andrew Daykin said: "Nick's commitment and enthusiasm shine through in every aspect of the service he and his staff provide. I'm confident he can win this award".

The awards ceremony takes place at the Grovesnor House Hotel, in London, on March 18.

Since taking over at the Fleece, Nick has been responsible for winning a much-prized Beautiful Beer Award and the coveted Cask Marque accolade for quality beer.
