Bradford Council highways department has decided not to proceed with the construction of a bus build-out in Halifax Road, Cullingworth.

The scheme received strong opposition from ward and parish councillors and businesses/shops, citing highway safety among other concerns. "Our understanding is that Metro bus drivers were concerned about having to stop along rows of parked cars to pick up/set down passengers," said parish council chairman John Coultous.

"We also understand that other road users had occasionally signalled their annoyance. "However the parish council felt that the build-out would not solve this issue as the drivers would still have to stop in the middle of the road.

"We also felt it could be dangerous to road users, especially at night," he said.
