Union bosses who have fought against the closure of Keighley's tax office are heading to London today.

Nearly 1,000 fake P45s completed by Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) members will be presented to the Treasury.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs announced last October that the Worth Way tax office would shut as part of a regional review and most of its operations would be centralised in Bradford.

Only an "inquiry centre" would remain in Keighley and most of the 30 workers faced relocation.

Offices in other towns in the region, including Skipton, are also closing.

The PCS says its members expect to be moved to Bradford as early as this spring.

A local union spokesman said: "PCS members are facing constant attacks on their terms and conditions.

"Current Government proposals will lead to a de-skilled and unhappy workforce. We should be under no illusion that the closure of these offices will mean hundreds of jobs are lost from local communities."

The union fears the closures will have severe financial implications for many of its lower-paid members, hit local economies and force some people out of employment due to the increased travelling times to and from the workplace.
