Plans to knock down Silsden Methodist Chapel, replace it with a new church and build homes on the site have been approved.

Keighley Area Planning Panel agreed the application's merits outweighed concerns over loss of trees and inadequate parking provision.

The application for the Kirkgate site included proposals for five new houses and plans to convert and extend existing outbuildings into two additional homes.

Recommending the proposals for approval, planner Annette Middlemass said the owners of the existing Methodist chapel building were keen to replace it with premises capable of housing better community facilities.

She said that council arboriculturalists were unhappy with the application and described it as "totally unacceptable".
