A charity evening at the Keighley Cougars ground last Friday raised more than £5,500 for Bangladeshi cyclone survivors.

More than 120 people attended the event, which was co-ordinated by the Bangladeshi Community Association (BCA).

Speaking afterwards, community activist Charlie Bhowmick said he was pleased with the large number of Asian women and children attending.

He said: "It's a bit different for Keighley and very good for integration. Many of these women and children having been missing out on this sort of thing for years, so having more of them turn up is definitely the way forward."

BCA development officer, Abdul Motin, said the £5,500 was the most the BCA had ever managed to raise in such a short space of time. Anyone wanting to donate can through a Keighley Natwest account. The account number is 39884058 and the sort code is 536130.
