CROSS Roads-based Yorkshire Cat Rescue has received a purr-fect start to the new year.
The charity has been awarded £1,000 in an annual initiative staged by specialist insurer Ecclesiastical.
As part of the scheme, 120 charitable organisations shared a £120,000 pot.
Members of the public were invited to nominate a cause and winners were drawn at random.
Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which has been hit hard by the impact of the pandemic, says the donation will help it take in more cats and kittens and contribute towards paying the start of this year's vet bills.
Last year, the charity spent £106,862 on veterinary costs.
Nicola Willis, a fundraiser for Yorkshire Cat Rescue, said: "A big thank-you goes to everyone who took time to vote for us. The donation really will make a difference and has given us a massive boost for the start of 2022."
Mark Hews, for Ecclesiastical, said: "As a commercial company with a charitable purpose, giving back is at the heart of our business. In fact, Ecclesiastical is the fourth largest corporate donor in the UK.
"We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our campaign."
