A 'TAKEAWAY tree' event at Keighley's Cliffe Castle has been hailed as a huge success.
Several hundred trees were given away in just a few hours.
The initiative was staged in support of Bradford Council's Tree for Every Child project.
People could choose from silver or downy birch, Scots pine or crab apple varieties.
Keighley Central councillor Zafar Ali joined staff and volunteers at the event.
He said: "We had an excellent response from people in Keighley and beyond.
"We gave away about 450 trees. Each one will take-up some carbon dioxide and create habitat for birds and pollinators."
The Tree for Every Child venture aims to plant 55,000 trees, the equivalent of one per primary school child in the district, over a four-year period. It is part of the council’s response to the climate and biodiversity emergencies.
Around 26,000 have been planted so far.
The latest phase of the initiative was kickstarted with a session at East Morton Primary School.
Fruit Works Co-operative – one of the council's partner organisations in the scheme – helped year-four pupils, staff and volunteers plant trees and shrubs in the school grounds.
