Inspectors have found evidence of positive change and progress at Park Lane College Keighley, according to its principal.

Maxine Room was pleased with the response from Ofsted inspectors after they spent five days at the college last week.

She said they noted improvements since Keighley College merged with Park Lane College Leeds last summer.

Keighley College's leadership, management, achievement and standards were classed as inadequate during an inspection two years ago.

Ms Room said details of the latest inspection had to remain confidential until Ofsted published its findings in about six weeks.

But she said: "Since the last inspection of Keighley College there has been improvement in key areas.

"The inspectors noted the college's capacity to improve', reinforcing our position that as a newly-merged institution we are going in the right direction.

"We now have many measures in place - in the right areas - to start to make positive changes."

Ms Room said the inspectors recognised a well-managed merger and improved management that was now effective.

She said the inspection showed there were still areas that needed much development and enhancement.

But she added: "In just over five months since the merger, we have seen results start to improve.

"Although there is still a long journey to travel, with continued commitment, dedication and hard work from staff, we will develop the college further and enhance the provision of Keighley and Leeds."
