Beaver Scout Jordan Pullen is getting a taste of new challenges being offered as part of the largest ever launch of Scout badges.

Jordan, seven, of Cross Roads, is learning about the goodness of eating fruit and vegetables for his healthy eating badge.

It is just one of 40 new badges introduced across the movement, including parascending and snowboarding.

He said: "I'm looking forward to the healthy eating badge because I've started eating a lot of fruit this year.

"I will be doing this badge first then maybe something else like safety."

He could also have a go at tackling the emergency aid badge, in which youngsters are taught to recognise dangerous situations and how to treat cuts and scrapes.

Thousands of Scouts were introduced to the range of new badges recently at winter camp celebrations, at Gillwell Park, in Chingford, Essex.

The Scout Association has called it the largest ever overhaul of the movement'.

A spokesman said: "This ongoing evolution of the Scout programme enables the association to continue to empower young people, helping them learn new skills, giving them the opportunity to experience adventure, take risks in a safe environment and have their first taste of responsibility."
