The construction of 14 new houses in Cowling has been given the go-ahead.

Skipton Properties has received approval to demolish a range of former industrial buildings at Carr Mill, in Acre Road, and replace them with eight semi-detached, three-storey houses and six similar detached homes.

Officers recommended approval of the plans, which were agreed by members of the Craven District Council planning committee.

However, a second application for 13 homes on a nearby plot of land - also at Acre Road - was refused.

The committee was told that the site was outside the Local Development Plan and would adversely affect the character and appearance of the area.

The rejected plans were for eight detached houses, two semi-detached and one terrace of three.

Skipton Properties had offered to pay up to £200,000 for a hydraulic stage for the new village hall as part of the scheme.
