The region's NHS provides value for money and high quality care, according to a survey.

Seventy per cent of health service users questioned said they were pleased with the care they received.

The survey, of 3,500 people in every part of Yorkshire and the Humber, was the biggest of its kind ever carried out by the regional NHS.

Margaret Edwards, chief executive of NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "These results will give us a greater insight into what people in our communities really think about the NHS and also what they want from the service in the future. This is essential information for all those involved in managing and planning healthcare in the region."

In other findings, 82 per cent of people who had recently visited a GP were satisfied with their local service.

People who had been cared for in a hospital in the last year were very satisfied with the level of dignity with which they were treated, giving a score of eight out of ten.

Eighty-eight per cent of people in the region said they were satisfied or highly satisfied with ambulance services. And those surveyed said they were more than satisfied with accident and emergency departments.
