TRIBUTE has been paid to kind-hearted Keighley people for their support of Afghan refugees across the district.
Donations flooded in after Keighley Place of Sanctuary, which supports refugees and asylum seekers, launched an appeal late last year.
Now five vanloads of goods – ranging from prams to toothpaste – have been delivered to Horton Housing, which is leading the district's Afghan relief response.
The Good Shepherd Centre, in Keighley, acted as a collection point.
Salvation Army captain Dafne de Castro e Lemos, chair of Keighley Place of Sanctuary, said: "We would like to thank the community for its donations. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the public and encouraged by the outpouring of support.
"We'd also like to thank the Good Shepherd Centre for acting as a donation point and organising and delivering donations to Bradford for distribution."
Dorota Plata, manager of the Good Shepherd Centre, said: "Our volunteers, who are also asylum seekers, were pleased that they could be involved with this initiative. We work very closely with the Salvation Army and other organisations to provide holistic support for the community."
She added no further donations were required at present but that the need would be reviewed periodically.
