CRAVEN district has the second-lowest average wages in Yorkshire – and the seventh-worst in the UK – according to new research.
Data shows that workers in the Craven local authority area earn an average of £399.40 a week – nearly half that of people in the UK’s highest paid area, Westminster.
The district with the lowest wages in the UK is Richmondshire, in Yorkshire, where workers have average weekly earnings of £377.
Next lowest is Gwynedd, at £386.40.
The average weekly wage in Westminster is £771.60. Second-highest in the pay chart is Kensington and Chelsea.
And the UK-wide average is £504.04.
The research was carried out by employment expert Digital ID (digitalid.co.uk), through analysis of Office for National Statistics figures.
A spokesperson for Digital ID said: "With inflation soaring to its highest point in 30 years and National Insurance on the rise, Yorkshire is experiencing a serious cost of living crisis.
"The average household will find it particularly hard to manage soaring costs.
"The fact that in some areas of Yorkshire people earn less than half of what workers receive in the country’s richest areas shows we have a long way to go towards instigating equal pay and quality of life."
