PETITE Maman is the latest offering from Keighley Film Club.
The work of French director/screenwriter Celine Sciamma, it comes hot on the heels of her internationally acclaimed Portrait of a Lady of Fire.
In Petite Maman, eight-year-old Nelly – who has just suffered the loss of her beloved grandmother – meets a strangely familiar girl her own age in the woods.
Instantly forming a connection with this mysterious new friend, Nelly embarks on a fantastical journey of discovery which helps her come to terms with her loss.
Alan Watkinson, for the club, said: "The film breaches the traditional generational barrier between adult and child – with Nelly playing a supportive role to her mother – and has been described as a jewel of friendship, memory and kin that transports the viewer through fairytale, ghosts and a journey of rites of passage.
"Rotten Tomatoes rated the film at 97 per cent whilst the Berlin Film Festival also ranked it highly.
"This was an outstanding achievement for a film produced under lockdown conditions, with a tiny cast."
Petite Maman (U, 72 minutes) is being screened, with English subtitles, at Keighley Picture House on Sunday, March 20, at 6pm. Non-club members are welcome.
