An 18-year-old driver claimed he was caught out by a decision to shift a 30mph sign when he was caught speeding at 64mph, magistrates heard.
James Sutcliffe, of Hill Crest Road, Denholme, pleaded guilty at Bingley Court to exceeding the 30mph speed limit in Bingley Road, Cullingworth. He was banned from driving for 28 days and fined £200.
The court heard that Sutcliffe was caught breaking the speed limit by a police officer using a speed radar device.
Sutcliffe said the stretch he was driving on had previously been 60mph but it had been changed to 30mph just a few days before he was caught.
He had been unaware of the change.
