Keighley people have been thanked for helping to make sure a fundraising appeal for people living with cancer was a success.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £108,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support, following its recent Give a Gift initiative.

Building society staff, customers and members of the general public took part in a variety of fundraising activities last month. Staff at the business's Keighley branch joined in the fun by selling limited edition cuddly toys and badges.

A Yorkshire Building Society spokeswoman said the appeal received tremendous support, including backing from Coronation Street star Wendi Peters.

She added the cash raised would help hundreds of families across the UK by providing care grants to cover the unexpected costs associated with cancer.

Louise Neill, of the building society's charitable foundation, said: "We were hoping for a positive reaction but we are astounded with the level of enthusiasm, dedication and generosity shown to the appeal and offer our sincere thanks to the people of Keighley."
