KEIGHLEY Men's Forum heard more about the life of clergyman Henry Francis Lyte – who famously wrote the hymn Abide with Me.
A relative, John Lyte, gave the second instalment of a talk to the group.
For 25 years Henry lived at Brixham, in Devon, where he was hugely popular with the fishermen and their families and attracted large crowds to his church.
By mid 1847 he had completed the lyrics of Abide With Me and set out travelling to Italy and France. He died in Nice in November of that year, and was buried there.
His most famous hymn increased in popularity when William Henry Monk wrote the tune Eventide for the lyrics, in 1861.
John Lyte was thanked by forum president Dave Smith.
