Pavarotti is alive and well and living somewhere in Keighley.

At least, a 10ft tall, papier mache statue of the great Italian tenor is, say Keighley Festival organisers.

The heavyweight figure - the real-life Pavarotti died last year - was last seen "singing" along North Street, Keighley, on the back of a low loader, last summer.

Now he is wanted to act as the figurehead to this summer's contribution by schools to the festival. But nobody can find him!

Youngsters are being challenged to make lifesize figures of famous people to be featured in an exhibition.

"And we want Pavarotti to front the show," said Malcolm Hanson, of the festival. We're desperate to find him - he is a magnificent specimen made by the pupils of Braithwaite School, in Keighley, last year.

"He was the highlight of the festival procession but after it finished, we couldn't lift him off the truck - he was so heavy. I remember seeing him being driven away down North Street on the back of the wagon. We guess he could be languishing somewhere at the back of a building."

Keighley Festival is due to take place between June 30 and July 14.

The schools' exhibition, called Madame Two Swords, will include statues of famous people, dead or alive, and a chamber of horrors.

Anyone who can help locate Pavarotti should phone Malcolm on 01756 709275.
