POLICE and the fire service are investigating after a series of blazes in a village this morning.
Firefighters were called out initially to reports of a house fire in Clapham Street, Denholme, at 3.40am.
Crews from Bingley, Keighley and Fairweather Green fire stations attended.
On arrival, it was discovered that a vehicle – a Peugeot 206 – parked outside a house was ablaze, and smoke had seeped into the terraced property. The occupants – a family of four – had made their way to an attic bedroom to escape the smoke.
Firefighters tackled the car blaze whilst colleagues entered the house and helped the family to safety.
One member of the family was given treatment for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured.
There was some external damage to the house.
A special high-pressure fan was used to help clear smoke from the property.
Reports were then received of a van fire in nearby Knowles Street, which the Keighley crew attended.
And almost simultaneously, there was a fire at a domestic garage in the area.
A fire crew from Halifax was also brought in.
A fire service spokesperson said investigations involving itself and the police into the incidents were ongoing.
