A war veteran who was injured in Normandy during the Second World War has died.
Norman Rhodes Smith died at Airedale Hospital on Monday. He was 89.
He was born in 1918 and initially lived in Thwaites Brow. He joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment at the outbreak of the war and was stationed in Iceland for two years, before training for the D-Day landings.
After the war he worked with his father and brother in the family firm, selling and servicing farm machinery from Kildwick.
He was a founder member of Burwain sailing club, at Foulridge, Colne. He was also a member of the Shirley Masonic Lodge, in Bingley.
He leaves his wife, Barbara, three sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His funeral will take place at St Stephen's Church, Steeton, on Tuesday, at midday.
