Tall tales about life on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal are wanted to help make a series of short films.

A charity which helps wayward teenagers get on the right track is keen to speak to people who have long-standing connections with the waterway.

Wanted by the Bradford Motor Education (BMED) project are lock-keepers, boat builders, people who regularly walk the canal, who work on it or use it for leisure.

They will work with the youngsters, who have been referred by schools and organisations dealing with young offenders, on the Dreamweavers initiative.

The aim is to make three cameo videos, which will pave the way for a longer documentary drama to be produced later about the 127-mile-long canal.

BMED's Trevor Roberts, who is spearheading Dreamweavers, said: "We need to speak to people who have experience of the canal, who have worked on it, lived near it and used it for leisure purposes.

"Our intention is that they will speak to the young people, tell them of their experiences and hopefully help inspire them."

Professional film making company C Media, based in Barnsley, will be working with the young people to make the films, which have been backed by Screen Yorkshire. People wanting to help should phone Mr Roberts on 07803 726371 or 01274 593188.
