PLANS are well underway for Keighley Show – which is making its return this year following an enforced break due to the pandemic.
Organisers, Keighley & District Agricultural Show Society, hope the event will "bounce back" and are urging the public to give its support.
There will be around 500 competition classes, with an array of prizes, cups and rosettes up for grabs.
The handicraft section will include a contest for hand-knitted, crocheted or sewn items, alongside 'hard' crafts – such as wood, metal and pottery – plus paper and paints.
In the art section there are classes for watercolours, pen or pencil drawings and oil/acrylic paintings, and a photography category.
Bakers will be well catered for in the produce tent – with 14 classes covering a range of baked items, and four for homemade preserves.
There's also a children's handicraft and baking section, with 14 classes across two age groups – seven and under, and eight to 15 – plus a decorated paper plate contest for youngsters aged three and under.
Groups such as Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts, or community/day centres, can compete for the Community Project Award by entering an item – such as a collage, quilted blanket or three-dimensional model – created collectively.
Flower arrangers have an array of classes to choose from – including for amateurs, novices and children.
Traditional agricultural classes will feature animals including cattle, sheep, pygmy goats and horses – from Shetlands to heavy horses. And there will be a fun dog show, with breed and novelty classes; guinea pigs; ferrets and terrier racing.
Schedules listing all the classes and how to enter are available at keighleyshow.co.uk. Alternatively, email secretary@keighleyshow.co.uk or call 07704 766010.
This year's show takes place on Saturday, September 3, at Marley playing fields.
The society hopes "more people than ever" will go along to give their backing.
Thanks to financial support from Keighley Town Council, the cost of admission tickets to the showground is being halved – to £5 per adult – from the 2019 price.
And there will be free admission for all under-16s accompanied by a paying adult.
Society chair, William Mitchell, told this year's annual general meeting that it was important they "pulled out all the stops" to make the 2022 event a success.
"After two years without a show we have to give it the best we can to make 2022 memorable," he said.
