ANGRY villagers say water has been allowed to pour from a grate for weeks – whilst the public is asked to conserve supplies due to below-average rainfall.
Steeton residents say a constant stream is flowing from a grate in the pavement at the junction of High Street and Mill Lane.
"This was reported weeks ago," said one resident.
"Understandably, water companies are asking us to use less water. But they should be doing their bit too.
"At this time of year – and particularly at the moment, with the dry weather we've experienced – saving water is important."
Yorkshire Water says it inspected the grate on June 30 and found that the problem was due to a cable duct, which doesn't belong to the company.
